The Footlight Club, was founded in 1877, one of the oldest community theaters in the United States. In 1894, Chandler became a member of the Footlight Club, an amateur theatrical group based in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. She had five siblings: Cleaveland Angier, Whitman Mitchell, Ellen, James Mitchell, and Peleg Whitman. Grace Chandler was born on February 12, 1870, the daughter of Horace Parker Chandler and Grace Webster Mitchell. Other items include newspaper clippings, printed copies of plays, an advertisement, a dried rose, and copies of the Footlight Club's constitution as amended in December 1888 and January 1895. The album includes 7 photographs of sets on a stage. Of particular interest is a letter from Horace Vale to "Miss Verrinder" calling off their engagement after hearing rumors of her "desperate flirtation" with another man (postmarked March 20, 1895). Chandler received official correspondence regarding her membership and directors' reports, as well as manuscript letters congratulating her for recent performances most are still in their original envelopes. Most items are dated between 1894, when Chandler joined, and 1898.Ĭhandler collected numerous programs from the Footlight Club's many performances, including several in which she participated as a member of the cast and a few that served as charity events for a convalescent home and other causes tickets for performances and dress rehearsals are also included. Giving 4 stars because everyone else was so nice, minus the one girl. The Grace Chandler Footlight Club scrapbook contains around 45 pages of correspondence, photographs, plays, and ephemera pertaining to the club's activities in the late 19th century. All other staff members we interacted with were so fun and kind. Super cool club, marred by their check’s inattentiveness and inconsideration. Go for the conversations, intimate and personal connections, don’t check a coat. To the woman who ran the check, you can rot. So happy to have gotten them back, all thanks to the bouncers. This woman did not give two sh**s about us or the sentimental value. My friends coat is her late grandmother’s, that she deeply cherishes. They led us in the back entrance and our coats were hanging with my name and phone number written on them. The staff that was there was so so professional and kind. My friend and I ended up training back to Milan, just to grab our coats, and trained right back. We were only in Milan for one night, and went to Como the next evening. Regardless of immense proof of our ownership and her fault, she did not give us our property. I cannot believe we were spoken to&treated that way. But the woman who runs the coat check needs a reality check. WE LOVE THE BOUNCERS!!! They should in no way, shape, or form, be indicted by this. This woman was so indifferent and inconsiderate of her mistakes. They walked us back in to coat check, tried to communicate w her our jackets and what they had in them. Upon crying outside the club, the bouncers addressed us. I pleaded w her that I can show her pictures and tell her what’s in the pockets. As I went back and forth w her politefully, she gave me all sass. I informed her she failed to give us a ticket for our jackets. I showed her our receipt for payment and she told me she could not give us anything, as we did not have a ticket. We go back to get our jackets and this woman acted like she had no clue what was going on. We had a friendly conversation and I complimented her on her top. The girl gave me a receipt for 5 euro per jacket. Upon arrival to the club, I checked my jacket w my two girlfriends. I have worked in customer service for the past 8 years and have never treated anyone this way. Have never had a worse interaction with an employee in my life.
